Auditing Your Value Proposition, Marketing to the Affluent

This worksheet will help you (or your client) critically evaluate and improve your value proposition so it resonates with affluent audiences.

1. Clarify Your Offer

Write your current value proposition in one sentence.
Underline any vague or generic terms (e.g., “luxury,” “best,” “world-class”).
Rewrite the sentence using specific, concrete language that speaks to the affluent’s aspirations or standards.

Example:
Before: “We offer luxury travel experiences.”
After: “We design private, custom itineraries with exclusive access to Michelin-starred restaurants and private villas.”

2. Establish Credibility

List all claims made on your website about your product/service.
For each claim, note the supporting evidence (awards, testimonials, press, data).
Identify any claims lacking proof and brainstorm ways to add credible support.

Tip: Use third-party validation whenever possible (e.g., “As featured in The Robb Report”).

3. Highlight Exclusivity

List what makes your offer unique or rare.
Circle any features or benefits that are truly difficult to replicate.
Add or strengthen language that emphasizes limited access, invitation-only, or bespoke elements.

Example:
“Membership is limited to 100 families worldwide.”

4. Connect to Deeper Motivations

Identify the top 2–3 non-material motivations of your affluent audience (e.g., legacy, privacy, impact, personal growth).
Review your messaging: Does it address these motivations?
Add or revise copy to connect your offer to these deeper desires.

Example:
“Your investment supports the preservation of endangered ecosystems for future generations.”

5. Remove Friction and Anxiety

List every step a customer must take to engage or purchase.
Identify any points of friction (complex forms, unclear instructions, slow response).
Note any sources of anxiety (privacy, security, exclusivity doubts).
Brainstorm ways to simplify, reassure, or streamline each step.

Example:
“Our onboarding process is completed in one call, and your data is protected by bank-grade encryption.”
